Our signature annual fundraising event, the READATHON is powered by passionate library users sharing their love of reading, books, community--and the Library! On one special day each spring, these intrepid reader-fundraisers share their favorite fiction, poetry, nonfiction, speeches, personal writing, memoir--you name it--and demonstrate the powerful impact private donations make for our community and our Library.

The 2022 READATHON--the 10th annual read-out-loud challenge to raise funds for Tompkins County Public Library--raised $21,660! Every dollar raised helps to buy books and other materials our community so desperately needs. Nearly a million items are used each year—a remarkably high level for a community of our size—and 100% of the funding for annual purchases comes from private support like yours.

We're already looking forward to the 2023 READATHON--and we'd love to have you join us in this celebration of reading and support for TCPL! For more information, contact Kerry Barnes at

I'm reading in and fundraising for the 2021 READATHON because I love the Tompkins County Public Library and want to do my part to support it, now more than ever.

I want to raise funds to help buy books, films, and other materials so that every person coming to the library wherever they are coming remains informed, entertained, and educated.

--Margaret Soulstein, 2021 and 2022 READATHON reader-fundraiser
