2018 Inside Story Event

On June 15, TCPL's supporters gathered to learn more about all the Library has to offer. Even long-time, die-hard users were amazed! From language learning software, the abundance of online resources, and genealogy databases, to the 3D printer and laser cutter in the Makerspace, the Reader Is In Program, and the fun (yes, fun!) furniture in the new Teen Center, the TCPL Foundation showed Inside Story guests a real taste of what TCPL does to support our community. And in return, guests gave generously. Our event testimonial speakers, the Aittama-Wards, shared the many ways in which TCPL is an integral, everyday part of their lives, and clearly, people agree: our Library is worth supporting!

READATHON 2017

September 23, 2017 - September 24, 2017

Kicking off banned books week, we celebrated our right to read with your help! For 24 hours straight readers took turns reading to complete the challenge. Community members and library supporters spread their love of reading, an  the community in return showed their love for the library. Together we were able to raise over $13,000!

2017 Inside Story Event

May 31, 2017

On May 31, nearly 300 people gathered at TCPL for the Inside Story Event, an annual fundraiser, to learn more about the ways in which TCPL helps people succeed in life. The theme was "Recipes for Success," and 2017 Annual Fund Chairs Dave and Arjan Makar shared their personal story of how TCPL has nourished their appetites for education, entertainment, community involvement, and more. They discussed how their needs have changed over time, as they became parents to Natasha, and how TCPL has been a support every step of the way. Loyal Library supporters and people who wanted to get more involved in TCPL came together, enjoyed food from local chefs, and discussed the impact TCPL has made in their own lives. In spite of the good food, everyone went away hungry for more of what TCPL has to offer!

READATHON 2016

September 23, 2016 - September 24, 2016

Coinciding with the Library’s kick-off of Banned Book Week, the fourth annual READATHON included eight hours dedicated to observing the freedom to read. Your support helped us surpass our $10,000 goal, and reach out to readers and patrons. Over 300 people joined us for sharing good books!

21st Century Campaign Celebration

June 18, 2016

On June 18, over 150 people came together at TCPL to celebrate the culmination of our 21st Century Library Campaign. Launched to the public in November 2014 with a goal of $2.75 million, the  Campaign was envisioned to provide books, and beyond, for the digital age.  Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community, the campaign, which concluded on June 30, raised $3.54 million. The event's highlight was the unveiling of the completed LEGO TCPL model. The celebration was a joyous opportunity to thank donors and campaign committee members, and to promote the renovations that were made possible by the campaign. This party, organized by Vicki Taylor Brous, featured a passport tour of stations throughout the Library featuring fun activities, themed refreshments and previews of the new services to come. A great time was had by all.

The annual Inside Story Lunch is one of the Foundation's most anticipated occasions - where loyal and enthusiastic donors come together to share their stories and passion for library support.  The 2016 lunch took place in Emerson Suites at Ithaca College and was organized by Vicki Taylor Brous of Brous Consulting.  Through a willingness to share their love of the Tompkins County Public Library with others, patrons come and discuss the value and meaning of TCPL to them, in a way that helps donors personalize their investment in TCPL.

Sesquicentennial Donor Brunch

April 6, 2014

On a sunny Sunday morning, we welcomed spring by celebrating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Tompkins County Public Library. Guests were treated to a bountiful brunch and remarks from library director, Susan Currie, and Ezra Cornell, descendant of our founder. Librarians were on hand to talk about the library's work and vision for the future. Self-touring of the sesquicentennial art exhibits was encourged! We'd like to thank the area businesses that made this brunch a memorable - and delicious - experience and for allowing us to thank our donors while ensuring that dollars raised are used in support of TCPL.

Common Cause: a jazz benefit concert supporting TCPL

November 12, 2013

On a cold Tuesday night, the sweet sounds of jazz turned up the heat in support of the Tompkins County Public Library. With 100% of all ticket sales and additional gifts benefiting the Library, the "Common Cause" concert featured the East Hill Classic Jazz Band and Djug Django. We'd like to thank the First Unitarian Church for their donation of a warm, welcoming venue with perfect acoustics. A hearty round of applause for the musicians who made it possible and our sincere gratitude to Johnny Russo and Doug Robinson for organizing the performance.
